Adult Volunteer Oppurtunities

SharpTop Cove exists to provide an unforgettable experience to all our guests – young and old alike, during the summer and school season. In the past, hundreds of volunteers have given thousands of hours of their time throughout the year to make our Mission possible.

Whether you can give a weekend, week, month or more at SharpTop – we need you, no matter your experience! We need people in specific trades and others to help in non-skilled areas like landscaping, administrative work, or general labor to name a few. You will join a community of full-time staff, year-long interns, and families of staff. And as a community, each person has committed to serve each other, guests, kids who come to camp, and most importantly to serve Christ.

SharpTop Cove’s Volunteer Program is an opportunity for a life-changing volunteer experience. The program is designed for folks who are deeply committed to Christ and desire to become a part of our Property Staff in providing excellent camping experiences for kids and adults…and who love kids!

COMMITMENT

Potential volunteers are asked to commit to 6-8 hours daily for weekend trips and 30-40 hours per week (combined 50 hours for married couples) in areas of the camp that best fit their gifts, skills, desires, and the needs of SharpTop whether they be administrative tasks, maintenance and/or construction, and other areas as needed.

HOUSING / MEALS

SharpTop Cove will provide volunteers with housing (Young Life summer camping season excluded) at Cherokee Lodge (motel style rooms). There are also six R.V. pads with water/electric/sewer hookups available for anytime during the year. Because of the limited number of pads, reservations must be made in advance. There are full laundry facilities available, cell phone service in most areas of the property, and there is free WiFi available. While volunteering, meals will be provided at the Mill (camp dining hall).

INTERESTED?

Feel free to contact us by email or at one of the two phone numbers listed below if you would like more information or to schedule a visit.  All potential (short term, long term/ongoing) volunteers will be asked to complete an application, supply two references and go through an informal interview process.

Current Volunteer Needs

We are always looking for volunteers to serve with us at SharpTop Cove. Currently there are specific needs to be addressed and the following descriptions vary from weekend projects to those that may take 1-2 weeks, with some that may last much longer. There are times when a single volunteer could cover multiple projects that would be spread out over a number of months.

Painting/Staining: Assist our paint crew coordinator in painting and staining projects, including power washing, spraying, masking and other tasks related to painting and staining. No previous painting experience is required.

Carpenter/Handyman: We are always looking for someone with experience in framing and finish carpentry. Drywall experience would also be an asset. Multiple carpentry projects are undertaken each year from general framing to cabinet and countertop fabrication and installation.

Waste Water Treatment/PlumbingSince SharpTop Cove has its own wastewater treatment plant, there is daily monitoring and regularly scheduled cleaning at the plant required to meet county and state health requirements. There are also LOTS of sinks and toilets that are in constant need of daily and immediate attention.

Road Maintenance: Assist road crew staff with road patching and maintenance on the property, especially the 2+ mile mountain road entrance.

HVAC/Electrical Technicians: With all the buildings and outdoor electrical systems, we would love to have someone with extensive experience for troubleshooting and servicing the different control systems, motors, pumps and fiber optics phone lines.

Maintenance Shop/Wood Shop Steward: Organize, inventory, stock shops, and warehouses. We need someone with great organization skills and a natural bent to get rid of junk for this job!

Window Cleaning: There are hundreds of windows in more than 15 buildings that need to be cleaned regularly. We’re talking more than 850 pairs of hands and countless Georgia bugs to mess up the windows on any given day.

Miscellaneous Jobs: This would satisfy all the other jobs not listed above!
